Like drinking a bar of galaxy - smooth chocolate throughout. A little bit more alcohol perhaps to strengthen

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Sept 2014, so it's a little out of date. Purchased a while back from the York Beer & Wine shop. The label describes it as a 'vanilla-conditioned porter' hopped with Galena and Willamette.

A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. A dark reddish-brown hue that appears pitch black in the glass. Yields a large head of creamy beige foam that hangs around for a few minutes before subsiding to a patchy surface layer.

S: Aroma of vanilla and roasted malt with hints of subtle burnt grain, dark malt, chocolate, mild dried fruit, ale yeast and faint stewed hops. Reminiscent of a crème brûlée - delicious.

T: Tastes of roasted malt with a vanilla character and a dry, bitter finish. Notes of dark malt, roasted grain, mild chocolate, vanilla, subtle dried fruit, ale yeast, earthiness and stewed hops. Faintly sweet, followed by a restrained, malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly tingly, with soft carbonation and decent body for the style. Could be a tad creamier. Mildly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of roasted malt, vanilla, faint chocolate and stewed hops.

O: A tasty little number from the Hop Studio. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are an excellent blend of roasted malt notes and vanilla. Decent body, even if a shade too thin. Goes down a treat, and probably even better on cask. A must-try for lovers of dark beer.
