available exclusively at st andrews golf courses, apparently brewed by the local brewery, pretty great stuff really, although context does a lot here at this monument to the game. had my first one on tap but they also can it, i think better on tap, from the clubhouse, which is a rad place to drink beer anyway, views of the ocean, the old and the new course, sprawling vistas, pretty epic. this is blonde and pretty clear, high white headed with great carbonation, love the lower alcohol on it, especially for actually playing golf, i am bad at it with a buzz. in a way this is just a yellow lager with a little bit of european character, on the other hand though its a piece of history, a sense of place, and all the technical intangibles are dialed on it, super dry and crisp, refreshing without being too minimal, very light herbal type hops, could be old english varietals but it hits almost noble too, grassy and appropriate for what is essentially a lawn game. i love the little pop of malt sweetness and floral freshness in the middle, i like the water profile which aids the crispness, and frankly its just dope to be here drinking beer, kind of a once in a lifetime experience, so having this as the beer of that experience was special, and also the beer is good. a lager yeast with some personality, flavorful for its lightness, and overall solid for a mass appeal kind of thing that still feels crafty and intentional. something i probably will never forget. had one from the can walking the new course too, also righteous! what a life! cheers to tom!
