another exclusive to the course, cheers to tom! stoked to have had this and the lager, i like them both, but maybe slight edge to the lager for drinkability and technical tidiness, although this is nice too, and real flavorful for its low abv, light astringency at the end, less compelling on the ferment overall, but nicely layered on the grain side with fresh baked bread, bran, toffee, and raisin nuance to it, modest sweetness the whole way but not concentrated and long boiled to me like some can be, not too much, its smooth and relaxed, and has good carbonation for the style. pretty brick red to amber color to it, frothed up off white head, not perfectly clear but it has a nice low glow anyway. the nose on this is slightly rich, certainly malt forward and old worldy, a hint of unlit cigar, leather, and even sherry or white port or something. not much hops to this but they arent missed, and i like the way it lingers past the swallow. raisin and toast to finish, a note of dried red apple, distinctive while also being true to style, higher carbonation than a lot of these have too, and crazy low abv as these go, especially in the states where 8% abv or so sometimes feels like the standard for a scotch ale. amazing experience to drink this at the course, which i think is the only place its available. i like the tom morris 1821 lager better, but this was a treat nevertheless!
