A double hopped version of the Crail, taking this normally pale ale into higher strength 'verging on' IIPA territory. Exciting to say the least. Pours a golden caramel honey colour with really amazing lacing on this.
Smell is full of tropical fruits, grapefruit, papaya, pineapple, sweet cherry, slight nuttiness, not too sweet or really that bitter with the hops, a ton of fruitiness.
Taste has more fruitiness, more herbal herbal rosemary notes toward the finish. Citrus notes with lemon, bready malt, crisp mineral character, really crisp actually, cherry and some honey. Finishes dry fruity, a bit more bitterness though not much, some yeast comes through.
Mouthfeel is really drinkable for the ABV. Moderate body, with nice soft carbonation. Pleasant with a fruity malt body. Refreshing and drinkable.
Different from what I expected, a lot of fruitiness, which is balanced by a more nuanced hop character. More toward a really intensely fruity and complex EPA. Interesting and nicely balanced, dry on the finish. Altogether this is a quite nice beer, really drinkable especially for the higher abv, I would have liked more bitter hops personally, as well as some more complexity, and feel this stops short of being great beer.
