A: Pours a deep reddish-purple with some mahogany undertones, capped with a frothy, fluffy light tan head that sticks around for a while and leaves nice lacing on the glass
S: A little dark fruit, a little underlying sweetness, very mild aroma for a BW. A little licorice?
T: Again, pretty mild, for a BW. Some dark fruits, some blunted malt sweetness, decent hop bitterness, a little alcohol burn, and pretty nice overall balance for a “green” barleywine. Would like to see how it develops.
M: Smooth, somewhat velvety, but thinner than many BW that I’m used to. The carbonation is not heavy, but on the “zesty” side
D: Pretty easily drinkable, would like to know the ABV, 9%?

Poured from fresh growler into snifter; deep brownish red, cloudy. Not much head even from a vigorous pour, but such is beer from a growler. The head that is present is tan and thin, but leaves great lacing. Smells hoppy, but with some sweet dark fruit and malt behind it. Taste is thick and sweet up front, lots of hop presence, with a finish of both hop bitterness and malt sweetness. Alcohol is well hidden too, a great barleywine. Another great brew, I'm so glad this place is just down the road!
