Brewery: G.C. Starkey Beer Company (Dundee, NY)
Type: Belgian Amber
Serving Type: from a tap to a tasting glass (4oz)
Color: dark copper/red, medium white head, filtered
Smell: sweet caramel, toffee, grapefruit, freshly baked rye bread
Taste: strong toffee, candied creams, caramel, whiskey, brown sugar, and biscuits
Belgian Amber is not really a Belgian beer at all. It is more of an American Amber/Red Ale, a malt bomb with some nice hop spritz on the back of the tongue. The beer pours nice and retains a lacy head. The smell and taste are a bit overly sweet and the hops are merely given a backup role. This is a decent drinking beer, however it lacks complexity and misleads with the name.
