Brewery: G.C. Starkey Beer Company (Dundee, NY)
Type: Czech Pilsner
Style: Czech Pilsner
Serving Type: from a tap to a tasting glass (4oz)
Color: bright gold, medium head with strong white lacing, filtered
Smell: slight orange tinge, pine needles, caramel, raisins
Taste: caramel, slight grapefruit, toffee, slight booziness
This tasted like a cheap knockoff. I am not a fan of Czech Pilsners in this country, considering, like Helles lagers, they tend to be the cast-off “introductory” beers. CP is a great example of that, an introductory beer for wine snobs who don’t want to challenge their taste buds while at Starkey’s. This beer pours the right color (for a CZ Pils), has good retention, and smells like a Pils. However, when you sip the thing it all goes south. Everything is very moderate, if there at all. What one experiences is a lot of boozy tastes and carbonation, like some big macros!. The guy serving the beer even said, "I like this one, its like a Miller Lite." Not worth a tasting or a pint. Certainly not worth $9 for a bomber!
