We are pleased to share our innovative black Pilsner, Pils-Noir. Made from Pearl (Winter) barley, malted for us by Munton’s, CaraMalt and Crystal malts, prepared using our unique, husk-free milling process. We then naturally darken the beer using the classic Czech technique of decoction mashing. Hopped with Oregon Willamette, Mt. Hood and Washington hops, and finished with noble Czech Saaz for a fine aroma.

Had on-tap at Gigi's in State College, poured into a tall weiss glass.
L: Pours a clear very dark brown... nearly black. Thick tannish head that falls quickly.
S: Barley... roasted malts and grains. Hints of coffee.
T/F: Lager-ish up front... malts with a slightly roasted character. Earthy... faint hints of coffee but not overpowering. Smooth and clean. Light hops at the finish Well carbonated and easy to drink.
O: Not bad... and I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from this black pilsner. It has a little more bite than a typical pils but the roast character works for this beer. Very sessionable at 4.9% and again... easy drinking.

7/18...pours dark, some light flecks, white foam. Light roasted nose, but minor. Taste is a rich coffee roasted flavor, but thin. Lager-y. Earthy tones, lighter mouthfeel. Nice juxtaposition.
