Fruit, spice, bread and full of understated complexity, the German wheat beer offers a wide range of flavor but in a package that's easy, effortless and highly refreshing- perfect for beach side communities. Props Brewery satisfies this thirst with a traditional hefeweizen that suits the Florida coast as much as it does the Black Forest.
Heinkel Hefe comes with the espected cloudy haze that glosses a lemon tinted beer. A medium statured, stark white froth adorns the rim while the gentle melange of citrus, tropical, melon and orchard fruits swirl about the nose along with hints of peppery spice, clove and vanilla. Moderate sweetness greets the tongue with a soft flow of sugar cookie and sourdough.
As the sweetness relaxes, its bready structure remains through the middle palate. The fruit and spice balance plays out with a heightened display of lemon, apple, banana, papaya and honeydew. Clove, white pepper, vanilla and coriander offset most of the fruit while a slight grassy bitterness trails in a crisp, minty, parsley-like late palate.
Medium light in body, the beer's early creaminess gives way to a crisp, clean and refreshing finish with a brief afterglow of tart citrus, spice and lemongrass. A brief return of wheat comes well after the remainder of flavors subside.
