DATE TASTED: September 10, 2015 ... GLASSWARE: Brew at the Zoo pint... OCCASION: the NFL season begins anew.. APPEARANCE: the standard dark black body with a reasonable, brown, single-finger head that fizzes to an equally reasonable ring; ... AROMA: rich chocolate and coffee bean, with a pleasant, toasted cracker building a rounded, warming approach... PALATE: surprisingly smooth, swift rush through the mouth...simmers with substance in the throat; coating but apologetic... TASTE: tasty, toasted oats sweeten the already sweet chocolate and light hoppy presence... dry and medium-bodied enough to sip, but agreeable enough to drink at will...the coffee present in the nostrils is not quite detectable in the tasting...OVERALL: Another surprise gift from Shan’s Uncle Mark, a send-back from the Beer of the Month we sent him... another California brew I have yet to hear about but am glad I have...the oats make this a memorable, nuanced experience...

Roasty, coffee, slightly earthy flavor. Thin bodied, slightly prickly mouthfeel. Pleasant finish. Overall an enjoyable porter but nothing memorable. Beer of the month club selection and I won't mind sharing the other two I have left.

Got this beer in a beer of the month club selection. One of my favorites so far.
Poured into a goblet from a bottle.
Nutty and malty on the nose, smells great.
Dark brown with amber highlights and a thin tan head, thin but persistent lacing.
All the nutty, malty notes are there in the flavor. It goes down easy; nutty and dark without any heaviness.
This is from their session ale series and it works, I could easily drink the strike porter all night.

Poured from 12 oz bottle. (Beer of the month club offering). Medium heard fades, limited lacing. Dark brown coffee color. Not a deep dark look.
S: medium roast. Malt undertones are faint. T: fishy (my opinion). Roasted coffee without a good finish.
F: tinny but doesn't linger.
O: it's ok. But not a good micro brew.
