Naked Brewing Co. "The Gentleman"
on tap at the brewery on 14 April 2018
Notes: Clear dark mahogany brown/black body beneath a creamy head of tan. Higher alcohols appear in the aroma along with ethyl acetate. It's unfortunately unpleasant and I wonder if the fermentation just got away from them on this batch or is it coming from the apple brandy barrels that they've aged it in. I'd think that the ethyl acetate at least is from the barrel. - I should also note that I seem to be much more sensitive to this than other people so I'll go easy in scoring it - The flavor is better but the alcohol remains kind of harsh. I'm finding notes of chocolate, ashen roastiness, light coffee, and golden caramel. A soft bitterness balances it nicely and it finishes dry and gently lingering. Medium bodied with a smooth, soft mouthfeel.
