Coal Harbour Brewing 'Powell IPA" @ 6.5% , served from a 650 ml bottle purchased for $5.95
A-pour is a dark gold from the bottle to a clear amber in the glass with a medium size off-white head leaving a spotty lace along the pint
S-medicinal & pine
T-too much red grapefruit for my taste buds
MF-ok carbonation , big medium body
Ov-ok beer , lacks something as a PNW IPA

As red as the red ale I was drinking last night. If I had to tell the difference between the two at sight, I'd know this one for the smaller amount of head.
Taste is very piney.

I would call it a Imperial Red Ale not a IPA. Pours a very dark Red tiny with a tiny head.
Has a yeasty nose to it with a very sweet hit on the tongue and a strong caramel malt taste.
Not bad but to sweet for me i was hoping for a hoppy IPA from these guys.
I would not buy again.

Surprisingly this beer pours a deep red, with just a hint of haze and a thin head. The aroma is rich sweet english caramel malt and grapefruity citrus hops. The is a hint of diacetyl but it's not a bad thing. The huge malty sweetness is there in the flavor but the rich caramel and toffee dry out quickly and give way to pungent grapefruity hops. The finish has a nice sweet resiny quality. I would call this beer and india red ale or a northwest amber or something else along those lines, but regardless of what you call it it is delicious.

Picked this up today as it just appeared in six pack of cans. This could be a new favourite beer for my fridge as it offers up a superior take on the British IPA. The hops are there alright and figure in the nose and the finish but the beer is all about balance and the strong malt backbone. The mouthfeel is very full and you feel that you want another one . Great beer from a very promising young brewery.

Thanks to my brother in law for this new local!
Appearance. Pours a very deep, lightly hazy amber with almost two fingers of sticky and thick, off-while/yellowish head that leaves some awesome lacing.
Smell. Resinous pine, citrus and trpoical fruits with a little sweet caramel malt coming through and maybe a hint of onion. Smells big.
Taste. Sweet caramel malts, some citrus and pine hop flavours with just a trace of sugar cane. Very ballanced. Some mild citrus rind bitterness in the end. Not as big as the smell would have me believe, but some great full flavours nonetheless
Mouthfeel. Medium+ body with medium, smooth carbonation.
Overall. An easy drinking, and as the labe states, a "somewhat unusual IPA". The balance makes this an easy drinking brew, but maybe not the hop bomb that hop junkies like myself might go for. I could see this being very popular on the local taps and hope to see that happen for this new brewery.
