Appearance: golden with amber hues in middle, creamy white head, slight haze

Aroma: musty, earthy, reminiscent of Cantillon Geuze cheese, plastic and acrid phenols

Taste: similar to aroma, musty and earthy cheese like flavor, dry slightly astringent flavor, slight bitterness on the finish

Mouthfeel: medium-full body, smooth, little carbonation

Overall Impression: showcasing Burton's gypsum enhanced qualities, this ale gives off strong phenolic aromas and flavors that are reminiscent of Belgian Geuze cheese with some bitterness on the finish

Tasted by a pint at the local JDW pub, The Capitol, at Forest Hill, SE London. If not for the voucher (at 1.39 pounds a pint) I might not have chosen this ale, as it reminded me of the uninspiring Worthington Creamflow.

A: dark tawny hue with great clarity; coming with a very tight off-white creamy head with superb retention (due to the sparkler); very low carbonationed detected.
S: faintly sour malts and faint traces of caramel come on top of oxidised apple-ish fruits, while a swirl brings out underlying sulphurous notes. Very timid rather than understated.
T: lightly sour-sweet maltiness is followed by the belated entry of herbal bitterness and some traces of English pale ale's typical, damp-stinky edge of kitchen-cloths as well as wet oat-biscuits; a touch of phenol remains in the remote end.
M&D: well presented, smelling mediocre, and tasting bland; the nice creamflow-like mouthfeel (due to the sparkler fitted to the tap) make the mouthfeel rather soothing and soft, but, against the boring flavour, it somehow falls quite watery in the end of tasting. Overall, this beer is a waste of natural ingredients IMO.
