12oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.
Lovely off white lacing, darkness is inviting. Soft pleasing hop oil in the nose and on the palate brings something different to this dark brew. Dark bread, balancing hop bitterness and a clean dryness makes this a very quaffable brewski. Would love to see more dark lagers from Baderbräu.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.
What, no hashtag in the name? Whatever, prolly better that way. Regardless, this stuff pours a dark black-brown topped by a finger of dirty khaki foam. The nose comprises mild greens and a twinge of treacle, though a bit of what may or may not be anise drifts through at certain points. The taste holds notes of grass, treacle, darkly-toasted rye bread, and a kiss of coffee. The inherent bitterness here doesn't work with the rest of the flavor pieces, leaving me wincing a bit with each sip. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a crisp, dry finish. Overall, this just didn't work for me. I have my problems with most black IPAs, and now I guess, if this catches on, I'm gonna have the same problems with black IPLs (or, I suppose, hoppy schwarzbiers). The bitterness is all out of whack and doesn't meld with anything else, if there even is anything else to meld with at all. Naw, man, naw...

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. A new one to me from Baderbräu, acquired a single bottle of this stuff as part of a mixed six pack at the local Jewel.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter.
A - Pours a dark cola brown, near opaque in the glass' with some shades of cola showing around the edges. A finger or so of khaki tan foam that leaves nice thin streaks of lacing. Looks good for what it is.
S - Smell is skunky, herbal, and musty. Some burned roasty chocolate malt content. Lightly citrusy at times, with mild notes of dark fruits.
T - Taste follows the nose: lightly citusy / piney / herbal bitter hop content paired against a black malt backbone. A bit chalky and burnt.
M - The feel is crisp, bitter, and resinous. Medium-bodied and easy drinking with a moderate 6.00% abv.
Overall, very average, but drinkable.
