Pours a rather hazy golden color. Very thick pillowy white head dissipates steadily leaving some residual foamy slick. Sticky lacing is left behind on the glass.
Smell has a smoky almost meaty wheat aroma. Not overly smoky, well balanced. There is also a bit of an aroma reminiscent of when a saw cuts wood - that sawdust/burning wood smell.
Flavor follows the nose with lots of smooth wheat, smoked malts, smoked ham, and a smoked/burning wood flavor. Touch of pepper, clove and spice come through towards the back end with a lingering smoked wheat flavor. Nice balance with the smoke - its not overpowering at all.
Feel is medium bodied, medium carbonation, pretty smooth. Not bad for a hefeweizen.
Overall a well done smoked wheat beer. Pairs very nicely with smoked meats and BBQ. My first offering from Baderbrau and it rather impressed me.
