Pours a dark chestnut/chocolate brown color with mahogany edges and a one finger beige head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Splotchy lacing left behind.
Sweet and spicy aroma with a very nice barrel character that's nicely integrated into the quad notes of the base. Subtle oak along with sweet, spicy spirit, toasted coconut and vanilla bean. Underneath, there's some vinous fruit sweetness, chocolate, leather and tobacco. Dark fruit esters with plum, raisin and date along with chocolate, toffee and caramel.
Medium body with a blast of sweet, spicy booze dominating the palate. The rum barrel really stands out but doesn't completely overpower the quad flavors. Dry, charred oak with toasted coconut and very strong sweet rum flavor. Underneath, there's some vinous dark fruit sweetness with sugar plum, raisin, date and fig. Chocolate malt backbone with toffee, dark bread and caramel sweetness. Could use more balance but there's nice barrel flavor and complex quad characteristics after it warms and the palate adjusts.
