Served in a shaker pint glass at the brewpub.

I like seeing the proliferation of New Zealand hops around these days. This case-in-point pours a clear amber topped by a finger of light khaki foam. The nose comprises pine, wintergreen, pineapple, very light leek, light rye spice, and some light caramel. The taste brings in more of the same, with the rye helping to add some mild spiciness to the caramel backbone. The hops, though, remain in the spotlight. Well, the hop, anyway... The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda dry finish. Overall, a very nice IPA, one that shows that balance can indeed be attained without sacrificing the hop character.
