Served in a snifter at the brewpub.
The best reference to a Poe story ever, this is a French oak/Amontillado barrel-aged version of Phantasmagourdia. It pours a clear midnight amber topped by a finger of off-cream foam. The nose comprises French toast (complete with both powdered sugar and maple syrup) and candied orange peel. The taste brings in more of the same, along with what seems like a hint of ruby red grapefruit peel, though I hope this is just the wine barrel trying to shine through the sweet and spicy din. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda drying finish. Overall, a pretty solid beer, one that benefits from a tasty and creative base beer, but one that doesn't seem to fully show off its unusual choice in barrels.
