No freshness date. Litle head and dark brown beer with opalising shine. Nose is lots of oak, dark candy and oxidated malts in there overal litle musty and strange. Taste is roasty and oaky, sweet and oxidated. Porty and wonder if there are hops in this. Overal also a very strange taste. Low carbonisation, sweetness, low bitterness and roasty/dark candytaste just don't come harmonic too me. Drinkable but very strange and hard to get used too brew.

Presentation: Once again the uniform lines of the brown brick building that houses the Huisbrouwerij Old Bailey played host to Wakefield CAMRA during our annual Belgium Trip on Sunday 27th April, 2005. Our last visit here was Easter 1999, some 6 years ago. The neat & massive interior remains, as does the beer range, plus one new addition. However, the exceptionally shiny and clean “Home Brewery” looks hardly used these days…sparking continued rumors of contract brewed beers, something we could not confirm - nor deny - despite several discussions with the wait staff.

Working my way up the 6 brews, the fourth brew I tried was the St. Honoré Bruin

Appearance: As with the other Old Bailey brews, high carbonation lends a healthy does of streamers to the presentation. Murky red-brown body with light tan colored head which lasted for a short while but after leaving some sliding lacing, the head collapses pretty quickly.

Nose: Hints of the alcohol level mix with caramel, toffee and a Brune sweetness. Toasted malts in the back end aroma.

Taste: Soggy start has the toasted malts, caramel and chewy toffee meld into a vaguely recognizable Bruin but with no outstanding features. Middle has a sweet Candy Sugar coating on the tongue. Some bitterness punctuates the last third, mildy spicy with a hint of aniseed also.

Mouthfeel: Feels average at first, but as it warmed it developed a more dominant body. Above average with a harsh carbonation though. The alcohol leaves a distinctive yet low profile warmth in the swallow.

Drinkability: Enjoyable, but I wouldn’t have more than one of these.

Overall: A little better than the Pils, Blond and Ambree, yet with a little bit more work this one could be a very nice Brune, but as with the other Old Bailey brews they seem to fall frustratingly short of their potential.

Dark brown colour, light brown head.
Liquer-like smell, with liquorice, toofee, dark malt.
At the taste is a little less resolute than you can expect. Same notes: toffee, liquorice. After all, a good taste.
Alcohol well hidden. A little light body for this beer, it slips away.
Good aftertaste, liquorice again, but even some good bitter. Not bad.
