16oz glass consumed at Iron Goat for $5.50. A collaboration beer with Boundary Bay, this is a "Passion Fruit IPA."
This looks a lot like the glass of 3-Way I had a couple weeks ago; although I don't think this is meant to be a NE IPA, it certainly looks like one. Very. OJ-like shade of orange, with a there-and-gone white head and virtually no lace at all apart from a couple tiny spots.
BIG Passion Fruit nose to this. Strong enough to drown out any hop aroma, really.
Big, bold tropical fruit flavor here. It dominates pretty much all the flavor until the finish, where a pithy, hoppy and dry bitterness brings things to a close.
Medium bodied, with a slightly watery mouthfeel.
I'd say the fruity aspects of this beer very much outweigh the ones I'd associate with an IPA. This might not have been meant to be a NE IPA, but it would definitely appeal to fanboys of that sub-style, I'm thinking. Me, I'm kinda on the fence for those, and this is a little too close to one side of that fence for me to drink a lot of this, but I'm glad to have the chance to have a couple.
