Mug club (20oz?)-sized pour at the brewery. $6 iirc.
Good clarity, copper-amber color. Good sized off-white head with decent lace.
Subtle pepper aroma mixed in with the Galaxy hop scent of the standard Impaler. The peppers make their presence known without making it smell like a pepper beer rather than a hoppy one.
Taste is much like the standard Impaler, but with an undertone of spicy roasted pepper flavor that does increase as the beer warms, giving off a subtle, and subtly increasing bit of heat as time goes on, but unless you are deeply sensitive to anything remotely spicy, it never elbows the hops out of the way. Impaler has always been an immensely easy drinking IIPA to me, and the peppers didn't change that.
Medium bodied, like the standard Impaler, always an easy drinker for something nearly 9%. The mouthfeel maybe is a little bit busier with the added peppers, but not by much
Maybe this wouldn't be my choice on a broiling hot summer day, but I'd probably not drink an IIPA then, anyway. In late winter, I enjoy it and it's subtle suggestions of warmth very much.
