This is a collaboration with Hidden Mother Brewing for Spokane Beer Week 2019. It's a pale ale brewed with a Norwegian farmhouse yeast, hopped with Hallertau Blanc hops and brewed with tangerines, peaches and Szechuan peppercorns.
Served in a mug, this was a cloudy, lemony yellow color, with a decent sized white head that left lots of lace.
Citrusy, peppery and a little sour in the nose.
Big, brightly citrusy flavor matched with a dry and aggressively bitter pepperiness (not sure if that's even a word). The up front pucker factor is a bit surprising. Very dry, with the.peppercorns and tangerines very in your face, with the peaches providing a more mellow fruitiness in the background around midway through the taste. There's a sour undercurrent throughout that strikes me as.coming from the yeast. Finish is dry and crisp.
Fairly light bodied, with a crisp and dry mouthfeel.
One of the more unusual beers I've had as of late, it will not be everyone's cup of tea. It's classified as a Kvass by whoever posted it on UnTapped. I'm not buying that, but Pale Ale seems an imperfect style classification for it as well. It's sufficiently dry and bitter to keep me from bolting it down and sessioning it, but I enjoyed it's bold flavors.
