750mL bottle purchased at the brewery (exclusively available there) for $12.99. Although it's officially Goatworks (a line of mixed fermentation beers from IG that will not be distributed beyond the brewery) #3, I think this is the first to be bottled, although I missed the release party a few weeks ago so I could be wrong. As of now, bottles of this are still available for purchase. According to the almost-entirely wrap-around label, this was brewed with Motueka and Vic Secret hops and Brettanomyces.
Poured into an Iron Goat snifter, this was a hazy, apricot color, with a good-sized and resilient white head. Lots of lace. Said head was easy to agitate back into existence.
Funky, tart and fruity aromas from the brett yeast strain and the juicy, southern hemisphere hops. Some vanilla oakey notes from the barrels as well but they're fairly restrained.
Taste is similar to the aroma. Light and fruity, in a tropical way, wrapped in a cloak of somewhat light tartness and funk, along with a very light, oakey vanilla quality. Very lightly dry and crisp at the swallow.
More lightly bodied than I was expecting, with a mouthfeel both modestly crisp and slightly oily.
This is so drinkable, it might work as a gateway brett beer for someone who drinks IPAs. I'm drinking it at the beginning of a spring weekend with temperatures around 80 and it works perfectly on such a day. Sometimes 750mLs of something can be a chore, well, not today! Well done, Iron Goat!
