a wet hop ipa with sabro and citra, cool these guys did a couple beers with fresh hops this year! i am loving sabro right now, especially in this context, but this beer seemed a little muted to me, especially next to the community grown fresh hop one they also made, that i had adjacent to it at the brewery when i was recently in. the sabro hops define this one, and now that i am hip to what they do in a beer like this, i pick them out way ahead of the citra, which to me is never quite so bold and sexy as a wet varietal. the sabro has big stone fruit and mango notes to me, juicy and ripe, with a high oil content and an obvious freshness. the grain is light and out of the way, the beer is clean on the fermentation and worked down to dry. i guess my only issue is that it doesnt seem bold enough, like the hops are good but too in the background, they do not lead the way here like they should for what this is, and the whole thing seems underdone to me, as much as i like the hops that i do get on it. i guess the spo-hop one was just a lot more robust and heavily dosed, it might have tainted my palate for this one. i like the beer, its bubbly and minimal in body, but it doesnt stand out from the crowd for me, heck, with the other wet hop and the pushing up hazys, it doesnt even stand out in this singular brewery, but its good beer and i cant be too critical. i love wet hop season and i never want it to end!
