this is absolutely not their best, at least in the state i had it in, a finer dining establishment just a block away from the brewery, freshness shouldnt be an issue here, despite them having more of a wine focus. in any event, it tasted overly malty, a little stale, dated in more ways than one, and just not as refined and relevant as most of the rest of the beers they make. it has a little bit of a deeper color to it, a toasted warmth and light sweetness to the grain profile, and maybe a bit more body than it needs. the hops smell piney and northwestern, bold but somewhat uninteresting, and although there is an intensity to them, there is really minimal bitterness in the flavor, which i almost am disappointed in because it leaves more space for the oxidation to show up on the finish, which becomes increasingly problematic as this warms up. the fermentation is also a little weird, slightly astringent, weird. its somewhat nutty and fuller feeling, it has a greenness about it, and its slightly harsh even without being bitter, just seems sort disjointed and sloppy, which i not what i have come to expect from these guys. i will try it again, hopefully at the brewery next time, as this could be an issue in the place i had it and not with the beer itself, but it seems underwhelming for a brewery i have come to really enjoy. a bummer.

32oz crowler, purchased as part of a pizza & crowler special at the brewery for $17 before taxes. According to Iron Goat, this is a "Northwest Hazy IPA," and clocks in at 6% abv and 40 On us.
Poured into a 10oz mug, this was a suitably opaque shade of yellow-orange, looking like a glass of unfiltered citrus juice. Good sized, off-white head, leaving lots of lace.
Big, bitter, citrusy fruit juice aroma to this.
Big, bitter citrus blast to the taste buds. This is not subtle. Midway through a modest pineyness creeps in, but the bitter, pithy, semi-acidic juice taste never gives up the steering wheel.
Fairly light bodied for an IPA, with more watery mouthfeel than I expected out of an IPA.
Like a NE hazy in looks only, this tastes like an old school PNW IPA, so someone expecting something like Heady Topper, or even Bodhizafa, will be quite taken aback. I'm enjoying it, and it certainly stands up to the heat from IG's Bahn Mi pizza, but I'm not sure I'd want to drink it all night long.
