22oz bomber purchased at Iron Goat for approx $5 (part of a take-out deal for a pizza + 2 bombers for a combined total of $20 before taxes; the Bahn Mi pizza was outstanding as always, btw).
This is a one-off in collaboration with the winner of a contest among members of a local homebrewing club. For more details, here's what IG's website says about it:
"Home-brewer Jimmy Jacobson’s beer was a finalist in the 2019 Inland Brewers Unite Home-brew club “IBU Challenge” competition and was selected by the Iron Goat Brewing staff to be brewed here on site. The stipulation of this Home-brew contest was that all the entrants had to brew a beer using a blend of kveik yeasts of Norwegian origin. Jimmy named his stout after Nott, the Nordic Goddess of Night. It’s so smooth, with a hint of fruitiness, and a slight chocolaty finish."

Although the bottlecap popped off with a rather anemic-sounding "pfft," my fears of no carbonation proved groundless. Poured into a tall glass of difficult-to-describe design, the color was a deep, dark brown, nearly black. Big, sudsy khaki colored head, with lots of lace.

Nose is roasty, coffeeish, with a little bit of a cocoa-like sweetness. I also get a vaguely fruity aroma that I suspect comes from the Kveik yeasts.

Like in the nose, the traditional stout flavors lead the charge to the tastebuds. The Kveik yeast(s) give it an underpinning that is both fruity and hard to pin down. Finish is a bit more dry and hoppy than I'd expect out of a stout, but not to an unpleasant degree.

Medium-full bodied, with a mouthfeel that's a little bit watery for a stout.

Probably the most distinctive stout that's not loaded with adjuncts or a big barrel-aged boozer in quite some time. Having said that, it's not so distinctive tasting that the Kveik is all you get out of it. There was some serious skill involved in getting the malt and hops balance right with this unusual yeast. I hope to drink this one again in the future.
