one of the more ambitious and delicious beers i have had from these guys, a wood aged brett saison with black and red currants, mature and funky and very well executed, i really didnt know they got into this sort of thing, so rad that they do! the color is a deep pink with an backlit orange tone, hazy and without very much head at all but with plenty of fizzy carbonation on the palate, not hurting for liveliness at all. it smells tart right away but more like medicinal tang from the currants than from the ferment, which to me suggests real fruit. it is super brett forward in nose and taste too, a brux type perhaps or a blend that includes it, to me anyway it has that particular funkiness. the wood element is through it all too, mellows the acid to keep this from being all that sour, and seems to enhance the funk. i love the currants by themselves, no need for other berries or anything, they pop in this. definitely some nice complexity to this, and on the precipice of greatness, i hope they continue down this bretty path. an awesome surprise and one of my favorites ive ever had here!
