This is probably one of the best Belgian Strong Ales I've tasted. Pours with a very small head that dissipates quickly. It has a bronze color with a sweet and slightly alcohol aroma. Taste is chocolate, toffee and cherries with a nice malt backbone. 34 IBUs Rated 10-11-2020

Good looking dark brown body with a creamy colored head. Smell is sweet and alcoholic; raisin, a bit of hops, a hint of coco, and a hint of cracker. Taste is raisin, syrupy cherry, leather, hints of spice, and milk chocolate. Nice full body, alcohol is masked. Quite sweet, but balanced by the roastiness. Very delicious.

$ 15.48 (Including shipping and PA tax)/22 oz bottle ($ 0.703/oz) from Tavour, Seattle, WA. Reviewed 10/19/19.
No identifiable date although “19191” is pressure-stamped in the silver band on the upper label and this is supposed to be the 2019 version. Stored at 42 degrees and served at 54 degrees in a hand-washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Medium amber, clear.
Body – Dark brown/black, opaque. When held to the light, some light penetration around the top. Very slight effervescence noted.
Head – Large - (Maximum 4.5 cm, aggressive center pour), dark tan, dense, short retention, diminishing to a four to five mm crown and a thin complete cap.
Lacing – None. Slightly surprising for an ABV of only 9.9%.
Aroma – 3 - Initially an odd sour malt smell with a bit of weak butterscotch/caramel/toffee after aroma.
Flavor – 3 – Really, not much distinct flavor. There is no taste of hops although the brew does have a slight herbal background taste. There are no fruitiness or yeast phenols dominance. No alcohol (9.9% ABV) flavor or aroma. Some medium gastric warming does occur. No dimethylsulfide, no diacetyl.
Palate – 3 – Full, bordering on syrupy, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3 (-0.25 point for being undated personal container). One of the poorer examples of a Belgian strong dark ale. The flavor(s) is muddled and uninteresting and the aromas are mild and difficult to describe. There are two positive attributes: the initial pour and appearance are not off-putting, and the label delineates hops and malt varieties as well as ABV and IBUs. This may end up as a drain pour.

A malty, dark, strong ale in the Belgian style of brewing. This beer is full flavored with rich notes of black cherry, warm caramel and a mild coffee character.
