Labeled as Magnificent Bastard Scotch Ale
12oz can picked up at Total Wine in Vancouver, WA
Poured into a Council Belgian-style tulip
p- beautiful mahogany w/ a small khaki cap
n- med to med-bold; dark sugars, fig, strong metallic booze
t- earthy peat combines with dry well-toasted malts, dark sugars, dried dark fruit (that brings a moderate sweetness), leather, and metallic booze; the higher level of peat character definitely sets this apart from others in the style, imo
mf- med-full bodied w/ soft-med carb; chewy
o- a good effort, however my preference leans toward sweeter, more balanced examples of the style

Can date: not captured, although the sales sticker on the can reflected a date of 05.26.18

Appearance: This amazing beer pours almost dark as night. On top is about one fingers worth of beige head.
Aroma: Huge amounts of molasses. Dark sugar, roasted malts. Burnt hops with faint twinges of vanilla bean.
Taste: Heavy scotch notes, molasses is almost beyond belief. Roasted malts, dark chocolate. Oh so wonderful dark roasted hops with dark sugar notes.
Overall: Goodnight this is a thing of beauty. Borderline perfection. And a definite buy again for a cold winter night.

Excellent’ ‘big’ Scotch Ale. Very malty as expected. Small head (again as expected). Dark fruits throughout. A good midpoint between ‘beer’ and barleywine.

I've had the old and the new name beer and don't really see much difference in them.

Look: Pours a rich, chocolate brown with a lively beige head that swells up and slowly settles to a lid, leaving good lacing behind
Aroma: Warm brown bread, smoke peat, some dark fruit, caramel, apple-led fruity esters, light earthy notes, and toffee
Taste: Opens up with a lovely blend of rich, bready malt and lightly smoked peat that hit hard and quickly settle in. Dark fruit, caramel, and fruity esters take hold in the middle as earthiness swirls about and closes with toffee, more bready malt, and peat
Mouthfeel: Full, smooth, medium-high carbonation, clean, and soft and smooth on the finish
Overall: This is some good stuff. These folks impressed me with their Doppelbock winter seasonal this past year and so when I spotted this, I had to try it. A tasty and well-made Scotch Ale that checks all the style boxes, is very well balanced, and ridiculously smooth. The 9.2% is hardly noticeable and make this a truly dangerous treat. Recommended

Name: Magnificent Bastard
Brewery: Silver City Brewery
Location: Bremerton, WA
Style: Scotch Ale
A.B.V.: 9.2%
Date: Unknown
I am drinking Magnificent Bastard today using a tulip glass. I served it at 46 degrees. The pour created a foamy, frothy, two-fingered, light tan head with below-average retention. The color is brown, with reddish hues, charting around S.R.M. 26. The beer is opaque. The slow dissipation left lacing on the glass. The appearance is average for this style.
The initial aromas are caramel, bready, phenolic, and peat. Swirling the glass again, I smell floral, butterscotch, dried cherries, smoke, a light char, herbal, earthy, and dark roasted malts.
The flavors are caramel, peat, smoke, phenolic, floral, dried cherries, molasses, light char, earthy, herbal, and dark roasted malts,
The mouthfeel is slightly astringent, finishing somewhat tannic. The body is medium, and the carbonation is medium-low.
I have had this beer fresh, and I was not a fan. The beer had more astringency and more tannic. I held on to this beer for the last two years; the aging helped, but not in a good way. The scotch ale is so-so. I would not re-visit.

12 oz can dated 12/7/20 poured into a Teku on 12/24/20.
Pours a 1" light tan head. Opaque chocolate, hazelnut color. A little lacing.
Aromas of toffee, caramel, booze, and a subtle hint of smoke.
Tastes like caramel sweetness, cola, and toffee, with a slight bitterness in the finish. The alcohol is subdued. Slightly skunky aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is very smooth and medium-bodied. Astringent and moderately carbonated.
Overall, this is an excellent scotch ale. There is a complex malt profile with a subtle peat quality. It's a great value when found as a six-pack, but well worth the higher price for the 20oz bomber.

bottle into glass
Light, off white head. Lovely, clear and deep auburn color. Aroma toast & caramel with hints of allspice and molasses. Flavor is of the above in a subtle blended version of them with a hint of sweetness. Medium heavy body with a real good caramelized malt and tiny hop bite finish.

Bottle purchased at Costco April 2019. Dateless bottle with "19064" stamped.
Look: Deep brown mahogany, creamy thick head and rising carbonation.
Smell: Hint of boozyness, barrel, toffee sweetness, caramel, and rustic woody smoke.
Taste: Roasted caramelized malt, delicious wee heavy, no bitterness and not overpoweringly sweet.
Feel: Silky, slightly numbing with no heat.
Overall: I really enjoyed this beer without having much experience in the style. Would buy again if I had the chance.
