Delightful aroma of pure Bourbon with that inviting beery edge. Very dark, near black, with a dark beige foam in the Affligem chalice. Prickly mouthfeel, massively malty, and darkly roasted. This is a little burnt sugar taste but it lurks under the black caramel and hoppy darkness.
Dry finish with licorice flavor and the bitter aftertaste. This is not so lush as some of these big boozy brews but it's all the more sippable for being a little tighter and restrained. Plenty big, though, and a lovely aroma of whiskey. From the 500 ml bottle purchased at Elizabeth Station in Bellingham. This is the 2017 release.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass, with a half finger light brown head with great retention and lacing, looks good. Aroma of dark toasted malt and bourbon and vanilla, hints of chocolate. Flavor follows with dark toasted malt and bourbon dominating and nice oaky vanilla with a hint of char. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A surprisingly robust head for a barrelled stout gives this a great look. Aroma and tasted are dominated by the barrelling, bourbon forward. The malt supports the bourbon flavors but has little character of its own. Finishes with great malty barrel oak and bourbon. A nice tasty barrel aged stout from Silver City.
