Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a dark orange-red with a one finger light khaki head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt, plums, strawberries, Cognac and a hint of bourbon; rich and fruity. Flavor follows with lightly caramel malt, plums, raisins, hints of light stone fruit, vanilla, Cognac and Bourbon. Lingering dark Belgian ale mixed with the two barrel flavors. Medium bodied with light creaminess and sharp carbonation. A very full bodied and balanced barrel aged Belgian. I liked the base ale and find this one more integrated and more satisfying barrel flavors than the last Bourbon only one. I think the fruit flavors in Cognac match the Belgian yeast fruit esters very well. Very enjoyable. Silver City is putting out some under-the-radar ales.
