A near impossible to pull out cork (like all Verzet corks) and caged 750ml bottle, harvest 2015, and with a best before date of April 2026. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.

Appearance: A clear amber colour with a one finger off white head that had decent retention and left some sparse lacing.

Aroma: Sour, vinous, grapes, apple juice, light funk and vinegar.

Taste: Sour, tart, vinous, oak, funk, grape skin, white wine vinegar.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: Nice easy drinking with a good amount of vinous notes to balance the funk and vinegar.

another fantastic version of this oud bruin base, this one done with wine grapes, really interesting stuff from the tap, and seemingly a little more lambic heavy than the other variants i have had, less malt heaviness and more acid and funk, maybe older, maybe a different blend, maybe the grapes totally change the dynamic, but this was different and great, if you dont mind them real sour. ive read that they use white grapes in this, or have in the past, but its a little tough to tell here, its almost a generic vinous character, certainly not varietal specific, and with the dark, raisin-esque malt, its really not easy to pick out more than just a fruitiness from the grapes, much as its awesome. with a little sharpness it almost has a fortified wine thing, port, even white port, its complex and awesome, and more fermentation driven than fruit forward to me. still lots of malt to this, but its thinner in feel, maybe even less sweet too, and i get a distinct lambic funk and maturity, a ton of oak and tannins, and a lemony note through the whole thing. a touch flat in feel and more acidic than i could drink multiples of, but the complexity is awesome, the fermentation profile next level, and the grapes marry into the beer seamlessly. of exceptional quality, i hope to be able to try the other variants of this now legendary oud bruin base. the grapes do a lot in here, even if the integration makes it tricky to identify in more detail. delicious!

Bottle: Poured a deep dark red color oud bruin with a medium size off-white with limited retention and some light lacing. Aroma of light acidic notes with some oak and cherry notes easily noticeable. Taste is a mix of oak, cherry, some funky Brett notes with some tart and sour notes with light acidic notes also perceptible. Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable Flanders red but does adventure somewhat too much into acidic territory.
