Picked this up recently at a Whole Foods in San Francisco during my last run out west. Yeah, I was drawn to this by the label (I collect them) but I also hadn't had anything from these guys and wanted to try something new that was less common than I could obtain here at home. This never felt too strong and the overall impression that I got from this beer was similar to what was on the label - colorful, varied, and and bit "out there" but in the end, this was nice to kick back with on a mild summer's night!
This had a lovely, hazy and brassy hue to it as it was subtly radiant and uniform in appearance. Lots of thick head topped this off as the lacing left behind was a bit odd. One thick ring remained near the top of my pint glass with scattered splotches the read of the way down. Lots of grapefruit, pine, and a hint of gooseberry in the nose as the taste contained white chocolate, weed, light white wine spice, and an underlying, earthy bitterness as everything was balanced nicely. This did not last long in my glass as the carbonation was perfect and the aftertaste was quite leathery.
The amount of alcohol in this was perfect too as I hardly tasted it and only felt a minimal amount of warmth once I finished this off. All this was missing was a date on the bottom of the can but besides that, this was a nice first impression from Calicraft - down to the bear on the logo. Not a lot of haze here and this certainly didn't feel like a double IPA but no matter, as this was fun and was worthy of being obtained via a 4-pack!
