Reviewed from notes taken years ago (probably 2014 or 2015):
"Imperial Irish Red Ale." On-draught into a pilsner glass at a bar in Krakow, Poland.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: No head whatsoever. Just a floater ring that lasts 30 seconds and leaves little lacing.
BODY: Deep dark amber. Glowing. Has decent vibrance to it. Nontransparent. Semitranslucent.
Appears adequately carbonated. Not unique or special looking, but generally appealing.
AROMA: Amber malts, floral hops, some pine. Not real hoppy. Lacks the toasted malt character/aromatics I'd look for in a good Irish red ale. Some breadiness is present and some faint bread crust.
A pleasant aroma of mild intensity.
TASTE: Burnt bread crust, toasted malt, amber malts, mild sweetness, some floral hops, and a bit of creaminess (mouthfeelwise, but it feeds into the presentation of flavour). Balanced and enjoyable...I like it.
Average depth, duration, and intensity of flavour. Has nice complexity and subtlety for an Irish red ale.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, creamy, fairly refreshing, medium-bodied. Has decent thickness and a good overall presence on the palate.
OVERALL: Drinkable and enjoyable and certainly worth trying. I'll murder my glass and I do like it, but while it's a nice amber ale, it isn't much of Irish red ale.
