Poured into a snifter, served at room temperature.

A: Black as a deep cavern in the depths of the earth, no light going through it. The head is thick, big and brown but goes away within a minute leaving just some small islands of foam and some nice lacing on the sides. After a while there is no foam left either. Overflows when I opened the bottle but there's no fuzz visbible when poured.

S: Roasted malts dominates the smell. I get some acidity from dark roasted malts, perhaps some plums or black currant. A slight remembrance of bread too.

T: Dark roasted malts is the big thing going on here. I also get coffee and a distinct dry bitterness. There's also the acidity that comes from dark roasted malts with a hint of black currant. The aftertaste is long and is dominated by the malts and the dry bitterness, at the end I also get a hint of really dark chocolate.

M: Light bodied. Dry on the palet and at the fuzzier side of medium carbonation.

O: This is very spot on for a traditional Irish Dry stout, and I would say a great example of one. It's well balanced and highly drinkable if you like this type of beer. It get's some plus points for being a great crafted example true to it's style. It lacks the wow-factor though and compared to other types of beer (that I would give the really high scores) it lacks ingenuity and depth. It's a safe bet, a simple beer that isn't trying to be anything else than it's supposed to and this is perhaps as far as you can go within the traditional boundaries of the style.

A: Pours pitch black with a small brown kind of compact head that leaves nice lacings.

S: Hard roasted dark malts, some oaky vanilla notes. Smoked ham and coffee - dry.

T: Dry hard roasted malts, with some smoke and some oak - vanilla. Coffee and faint dark bitter chocolate.

M: Aftertaste holds smokey bitterness, but only for a little while. Body is thin and carbonation is low.

O: Not bad, but surley not very exciting. More malts had made it fuller and also more complex.
