The beer is a fairly clear golden color with a very thin white head that didn't last very long. The aroma is moderately malty, kind of grain, as well as moderately sweet, caramel-like and a bit spicy. The flavor is moderately sweet, again caramel, the finish is crisp, a bit dry with a nice spicy rye note. The hop bitterness is medium-low provides a nice balance to the sweetness. Body was medium as was carbonation. Overall a decent brew.

J.T. Whitney's Rebellion Rye delivers a clear golden body beneath a short head of antique white that holds well and leaves a few splashes and spots of lace behind. The nose is gently carmelish and doesn't really suggest too much beyond a sweetish, caramel-accented amber ale. The flavor, however, is much fuller. It's malty sweet and quite nice with a lightly spicy rye component. Oh so carraway! It's round and well balanced. A firm bitterness anchors it, along with the spicy rye, and it finishes drying with a honeyish and spicy finish. Really well done! One of the best rye beers I've ever had; and the best beer I've had at J.T's so far!
