J.T. Whitney's Heartland Weiss is a standard Bavarian-style weizen with a cloudy deep-golden body and bright white cap. The head retention is lacking, however, and lacing is limited for the style. It's citrusy, tart and yeasty in the nose; light-medium in body, and delicately crisp across the palate. Wheat malt flavor and tart yeastiness meld well in the flavor with just enough sweetness to keep it from sliding into acidity. The acidity that's there, it should be pointed out, is not a fault of brewing, but rather due to the specific strain of yeast chosen. Some mild phenolics sneak in as well, but it's pretty much straightforward tart yeastiness. It finishes dry with a spritz of citrus and flash of spiciness. Refreshing.

This came in a pint glass. No head. Need to look at the tapping system. Smell was typical. Fruity, yeasty and spicy. Taste was the same. More orange than many hefe's I have had. Not too bad. I would like to try this under good carbonation conditions.
