The appearance was mostly black colored with a thin white head that quickly dissipates immediately. Concave film of a lace. The aroma starts with the sweet honey and sliding into the roast subtly. Sly chocolate malts. The flavor leans sweet combined through the previously mentioned aromas. Same sweet aftertaste. But a little bit of a dry roasty and then sweet finish. On the palate, this was about light to medium bodied with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation feels fairly low allowing sweet chocolate malts try to stick but still enough roast helps balance and let’s the feel come across just as it should - good. Overall, I believe Upstate did what they wanted to do. Definitely a sweeter porter than some may expect.
