You get some barrel oak, but no bourbon, not much of anything. Some basic malt flavor, more porter than stout. Very thin for the style and barrel aging. Meh.

Growler share.
Both of us opted for tulips, for this bad boy.
The appearance was a thick dark brown close to black color with a nice looking half finger's worth of light tan foamy head. Nice clingy lace wound itself around the glass.
The aroma captures a good amount of milk chocolate, dark fruits, some toffee, a keen dark chocolate and then a light coffee bean sweetness.
The flavor moderately leaned towards the sweet side of the melding of the dark fruits, milk chocolate and the dark chocolate side of the sweetness. Some bitterness does develop through the dark chocolate, but it's pretty lean, I'd say. Sly aftertaste of the milk chocolate and dark fruits.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt on par. Finish was a bit sticky, but mostly acceptable.
Overall, always nice to be able to try some Upstate in my life. Always a solid choice of a brewery in practically everything they brew and this one doesn't disappoint.
