Belgian Table Beer
Mid-Century Modern Life. Our take on a Belgian inspired Table Beer. This low ABV Hoppy Belgian ale will go great with long nights around the table, when you are looking to have a few. We hopped this ale with this years Ales for ALS blend of Citra, Loral, and a few other experimental hops. A portion of each pint sold will go directly to Ales for ALS.
The name is a reference to ‘Rocko’s Modern Life’ – a 90’s cartoon that Stephen Hillenburg directed for seasons 1-3. Hillenburg also the creator of Sponge Bob Square Pants, announced this year that he has been diagnosed with ALS. This name also follows last years ‘Theory of Everything’ with Ales For ALS, to help raise money and awareness for ALS/TDI research and celebrate the achievements of those diagnosed with the disease.
MALT: Pilner, Oats, Biscuit
HOPS: Ales for ALS Blend
YEAST: Belgian Trappist Ale
BITTERNESS (IBU): 80

On tap:
Amber body, slightly darker than I expected. Light head on a full pour, but there is a point where it has no head, and a swirl doesn’t help. There are a few noticeable bubble reaching the surface, though.
Nose is Belgian yeast, a hit of barnyard, and a little melon and citrus rind. A light grain bread is also an impression I get.
Taste follows with a light grain tea that is joined right up front by the yeast eaters and followed up quickly with a citrus pithy bitterness. The yeast esters and citrus bitterness actually play well together. I little spearmint comes in mid-taste. A fairly full flavor on a slightly heavier body than I expected. A near clean finish has a little lingering mint taste.
I really enjoyed my first sips, but came back towards the middle a bit as I worked through it. Definitely worthy of a try as to me it came off as bigger than its 4.8 “table beer” description might indicate.
