Had a pour of the barrel aged version at the brewery.
Very well balanced beer, between smoke, barrel character, and normal dark malts of an English porter, making this extremely drinkable and enjoyable.

Poured from 32 oz. can. Nice carbonation. Lighter amber than a typical porter.
Aroma has subtle smoke that doesn’t overwhelm the solid malty and slightly sweet foundation.
Flavor has exact same characteristics as aroma. Very similar to a smoked scotch ale. Not much hops. Less roasted malt than expected for a typical porter. This isn’t a negative but just a little unexpected. Really tasty ale. Just enough smoke to keep it interesting, but not so much to make it tiresome like some rauch beers.
Mouthfeel. Clean finish, mild smoke residual, but generally smooth and easy to drink.
Overall, this is the best smoked beer I’ve had in years. They don’t over-do the smoke and understand how to strike the right balance with this limited brew. If there’s such a thing as an easy drinking smoked ale, this is as close as it gets.

Had mine on cask. It's the way to go if you get the chance, night and day b/w it and the tap. Tap is still good but not AS good. Enjoy.
