From the depths of the Chesapeake Bay – Chessie, our Barrel-Aged Barleywine makes an epic return in a new package this year. The beast of a beer has quietly slumbered in oak barrels for 13 months — slowly breathing in the vanilla and oak notes from the barrel staves and adding layers of complexity to this full-flavored barleywine-style ale. The Columbus and Centennial hops have blended with rich malt and oak barrel flavors to produce a beer that is meant to be savored with every sip. There are three variants of BA Chessie this year- Bourbon, Brandy, and Red Wine, and they each have their own character.

Look: It pours brown with an off white head and low head retention.

Smell: It has caramel aromas with noticeable alcohol and cherries. There are some orange notes in support.

Taste: It has strong caramel flavor with strong alcohol and bourbon. There are some orange and cherry notes with black licorice. There are hints of oak.

Feel: It has a full thick body with strong alcohol warming.

Overall, the alcohol is a little bit on the hot side, but the flavors are complex with nice aromas.

HELLO! Pours a toasted caramel color with a teeny tan head that grips the glass. Nose is the bourbon and sweetness of the barleywine. The taste is smooth and sweet. Mouthfeel is white pepper and slight burn from ABV, but smooths out quickly. Good beer.

On tap at the new brewery. Aroma and flavor feature caramel, toffee, oak, vanilla, bourbon, and sweet vanilla with a slight hint of hoppy citrus. Rich, smooth mouthfeel that hides the 11.6% abv. Tasty.
