5 Years – The Anniversary Of Wood.
5 Years of craftsmanship, community, and collaboration at the Union Collective.
5 Years of research, exploration, and development intertwined with our friends Baltimore Spirits Company and Vent Coffee Roasters.
Introducing 5 – a testament to half a decade of shared passion and dedication. A Collaborative 5th Anniversary Strong Ale, aged for nineteen months in Baltimore Spirits Co. Epoch Rye Barrels, with Honduras La Esmeralda Coffee, roasted by Vent Coffee Roasters.
Indulge in the rich, honey pecan hues of this limited-edition ale, a symphony of aromas that oscillate between fruity light roast coffee and the smooth embrace of spicy rye spirit. Each sip is a journey through layers of caramel, toffee, and walnut, delicately balanced with whispers of toasted oak, pomegranate, and dried dates. Sweet yet nuanced, this strong ale leaves a warm, lingering impression of vanilla and roasted coffee.

Had on tap at the brewery. This is basically a rye whiskey barrel aged barleywine with coffee. The spicy rye notes are there, as is the coffee, plus sweet vanilla and unfortunately a whole lot of booze. I get that it's 14% abv, but even still it's quite harsh and unforgiving, like lower-shelf spirits. Too bad, because otherwise this could have been quite a tasty beer.
