650ml bottle - with one of the corniest, eye-rolling, pun-filled, horse-themed side label wankfests ever. It's great!
This beer pours a clear, bright medium copper amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly ecru head, which leaves some thick and streaky lace around the glass as it slowly sinks out of sight.
It smells of semi-sweet, grainy and bready caramel malt, lightly buttered rye crackers, some prominent citrus and apple fresh fruitiness, a touch of earthy yeast, and some earthy, leafy, and gently perfumed floral green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, a burgeoning spicy rye graininess, exotic-seeming citrus flesh, subtle red berries, muddled pome fruit, a well-hidden yeastiness, and more leafy, weedy, and censer-like floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly laid-back in its quotidian frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and more or less smooth, with a nice concealed creaminess slowly working its way to the forefront. It finishes well off-dry, the mixed malt, complex fruity hop esters, and pleasant bitterness playing us on out.
Overall, this comes across as a mostly well-made version of the style, with the guest rye malt not making too much of a dent with its typical bravado. Tasty, and easy to drink, especially with the essentially fully-integrated 17-proof wowee sauce contingent.

This is definitely an interesting take on the usual IPA. The rye adds depth, breadth and sweetness above and beyond the usual. Parallel 49 always manages to meld flavors nicely and this is really hard to describe. I'm pleased that I managed to snag a bottle on my last trip to British Columbia!

Dark amber / light copper and clear, with a bit of sticky-looking head. Bit of green apple and pear. Not nearly as bitter as I'd expect for an imperial IPA. Sweet rather than bitter finish. Mouthfeel a bit thicker than expected.

Nice citrus apple nose, great mouthfeel: like an IPA sandwich--on rye bread. Caramel, crab apple notes, more than a little bready, which works. The finish is a little thickly tart without any decay into herbal notes that would really make this beer shine. A nice effort!

Nice beer, looks great, heavy mouth feel, malty-fruity-sweet smell, just needs a bit more punch on the taste. 650ml bottle.
