Poured from a 341ml bottle
L: Red/ light brown. Mild dark white head with no lacing.
S: Sweet, scotch, bourbon, strawberry and lots of other tropical fruits. No smell of smoke even though it's a smoked beer.
T: Sweet with lots of fruit flavors and a slight tartness like a lambic would have. Once swallowed you get a slight smoky finish as though they have used a scotch from the Isays ( or however you spell it )
F: Light body and medium carbination but a very nice feel to it.
O: My favorite beer in the box so far, was worried to try it at 3:15AM but if they sold this beer as a single I would buy a case of it to enjoy around a campfire or at home. A very good all around beer but very misleading from its name and style they put it as.

Part of Parallel 49's "Brew Brothers sampler pack, featuring collaborations with various British Columbia brewers. This one is a collab with Firehall Brewery.
Pours cloudy brown-copper, hazy with a finger of head that disappears into a few islands, albeit with some solid lacing on the glass.
Smell is citrusy, slightly fruity, with a subtle bit of smoke. Cured meats. Caramel, light vanilla.
Taste is surprisingly sour, with a light smokiness (*almost* liquid smoke, but not quite), something slightly buttery, some light dank wood. Lightly fruity, kind of candied sweetness (candy corn?). Sweet then dry aftertaste, slightly meaty. Body is nice, pretty balanced, with mild carbonation.
This is the last one my girlfriend and I consumed from the Brew Bros. pack--the one about which we were least excited. But it's not a bad beer. Doesn't blow me away, but it's competent, and not nearly as "busy" as I was expecting. It grows on you. The sour aspect is certainly strange, though.

Part of the Brews Bros pack of 49th Parallel banding together with a bunch of local craft masters to give a wide varietal sampling of BC brews. I've liked nearly everything in the package, and it would be my go to choice for the summer. Alas, it was but a short term promo,
That said, this is a definite one of a kind with the lambic flavour, the smoke scent and the thin ale (not that that's a bad thing in the hotter weather).
8.5 ABV creeps up on you and once again (for me) the beers flavour and complexity really comes on strong once the ale starts to warm in the hand.
Ate gyoza and octupus sashimi while sampling and was transported back to a 1700's era Japan gaming house.
Will try again, only issue I really have is hat the smoke flavour is reminiscent of that barbeque seasoning 'liquid smoke'
The sourness is what defines this beer. If you like the style ( I do every 3 months or so) then park yourself in front of your monitor and watch "Scotched in Scotland" with MacLarry, MacMoe, and MacCurley for the full on cultural experience.

Brewed in collaboration with Firehall Brewery.
Appearance - Pours a rusty red with half a finger of bubbly tan head.
Smell - peaty notes, bourbon barrel aromas, smoke, caramel malts, hint of earthy of hops.
Taste - The brew is dominated by the barrel and peaty notes. It then goes into a caramel malt sweetness followed by some orchard fruit. The taste is more reminiscent of a "sour beer".
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation. Finishes sweet.
Overall - A interesting take on the "scotch ale" category. I am not sure how the "smoke" fits in as this is clearly dominated by the barrel and fruit. This beer is sweet to the point where it borders the cloyingly sweet category. Good concept in theory but lacks in the execution.

I really enjoy this style of beer. I love Thorogood and have been the victim of bourbon, scotch and beer themed rotations. What is interesting is the clear influence of whiskey in this beer. For me, the concept and the execution line up very nicely.

This is a weird one, boozy, smoky, and yet, endearing. Fits the name, a fun beer, not for every occasion, but for some.

Some bugs in this barrel... Doesn't work with the smoke.

341ml bottle, a collaboration with Oliver's Firehall Brewery (stopped there for some much-needed nosh on a wine tour a few years ago, nice to see them brewing now), from the Brew Brothers' mixed pack. That don't confront me - cue some fuckin' Thorogood, already!
This beer pours a clear, bright medium red-brick amber hue, with two skinny fingers of wanly puffy, and mostly just bubbly tan head, which slips on out the back door, leaving some floating dumpling lace around the glass as it quickly recedes.
It smells of mildly meaty caramel malt, faint Kentucky barrel notes - vanilla and rye - but they could be from anywhere outside of that sphere of whisk(e)y influence, really, roasted dark orchard fruit (it is still the Okanagan, after all), and herbal, leafy, and somewhat perfumed hops. The taste is much more barrel-oriented, the pithy vanilla and charred caramel-infused wood staves predominating up front, before a more pedestrian pale and toffee/caramel maltiness emerges, some wet ash flitting about, a toasty dark fruitiness joining it, and the same muddled herbal-led hops trying to keep the booze noise to a minimum.
The bubbles are pretty understated for the most part, barely a tame frothiness perceptible at times, the body a decent enough middleweight, and generally smooth, with a subtle clamminess arising over time. It finishes on the sweet side, the various caramel, vanilla and booze esters having the run of the place, but somehow behaving themselves.
Yeah, this is by far the best 'classic' music oriented offering so far from this heady collaboration project - the barrel treatment and the base beer really putting on a show. Leave it to a place called 'The Firehall' to provide the smoke, and yet it's sedate and contained, overall, thankfully, so much so, that I can just be content in my current situation - I'm drinkin' Bourbon, I'm drinkin' Scotch, I'm drinkin' beer, until 3 o'clock: last call, for...

A Collaboration Ale from Parallel 49 Brewing and Firehall Brewery as part of the Brews Brothers collaboration pack - Pours a reddish copper colour with a thin beige head that sticks around for a while. The smoke definiting comes through on the nose with some malty sweetness as well. The taste has some sweet red fruit and dark sugar as well as some hop bitterness but it is very crisp and makes way for some light smoke. There is a bit of wood and bourbon from the barrel aging but it is very subtle and mostly noticed on the finish. A nicely balanced beer
