341ml bottle poured into tulip 26/5/16

A clear ruby glow when held to the light, two fingers of loose light brown head hangs around for a few sips leaving a couple random patches

S nutty, leafy, earthy, faint cocoa, some nuttella spread, raisins, over ripe dark fruit, and a little dark bread and booze

T much like the nose, nutty and malty, earthy but a little boozy for 6.5%, other then that though its a decent bock

M thinner then expected but the bubbles fluff it up and flattens out, some heat and dark fruit linger

O not bad but nothing memorable, malty as it should be but booze pops up a fair bit for 6.5%

I'll give this variety pack some credit, lots of styles and most of then were decent and/or unique, I'm hoping they make another version sometime soon.

6.5% abv, N/A ibu, 341ml bottle.
A - clear chestnut dark amber with half finger head.
S - nutty, chocolate, chestnut, pumpkin, raisin, reminds me of P49 lost soul notes.
T - less carbonated, medium body. licorice, chestnut, pumpkin seeds, cocoa, basically what the nose suggested. roast malt.
O - interesting twist of bock, unlike what i had from VIB ice bock. more like lost soul porter version of bock. with little hint of bitterness at the very end. top of what i had from the pack (other three of lower abv & hoppy saison), hope the later will be better.

341ml bottle poured into tulip.

Pours a deep, clear amber-red with one fat finger of beige head that leaves lumpy coral reef formation lace as it recedes.

Smells of dark toffee, candied nuts, caramel pudding, raisin toast and cut grass hoppiness.

Tastes of more raisin toast pale malt, roasted caramel apple, more toffee sweetness and grassy nobel hops.

Feels soft and smooth. Medium bodied with gentle carbonation. Finishes dry.

Verdict: Recommended.

Not a bad 12-pack, but I can't take any more brett beers.

Like a bat outta hell, this beer was gone before the morning came. Nice colour, good head retention, with a warm sweetness and maltiness. Plenty of toffee, bread, and dark fruit make this an extremely quaffable concoction. Like a sinner before the gates of heaven, I'd come crawling on back to...try this one again.

Pours a deep red, almost brown colour with a thin beige head that has pretty good retention. The nose leads with lots of malts, toffee, vanilla and dark tree fruit, like cherry. The taste is very similar to the nose with some added piney bitterness which is present but on the mild side. There is a light carbonation and a silky mouthfeel. Really like this beer. Give it a shot.

341ml bottle, part of the Brews Brothers Vol. Two mixed pack, and a collaboration with North Van's Bridge Brewing. This time they've gone with some good ol' Meat Loaf as the musical accompaniment, to make a so-called 'dark Helles bock' - isn't that an oxymoron of sorts?

This beer pours a clear, dark orange-brick amber colour, with three fat fingers of puffy, somewhat rocky, and bubbly beige head, which leaves a band of spooky cobwebbed lace around the glass as it slowly and gently recedes.

It smells of semi-sweet, grainy and doughy pale malt, further blackened cereals, some muddled dark berry fruitiness, a touch of free-range char, and plain earthy, leafy and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is sharp, yet mildly toasted and bready pale malt, some middling earthy yeast, blended dark orchard fruity notes, a suggestion of biscuity caramel, and more understated leafy, musty, and slightly perfumed floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly wan in its hard to really pin down frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and mostly smooth, just a wee boozy debutante the fly in the proverbial ointment here. It finishes off-dry, the base maltiness still proving who's in charge, along with a little help from its lingering fruity and estery friends.

Overall, a decent bock, irrespective of its light/dark image issues, with a nice (apparently hop-borne) robust fruitiness. I'm not all that familiar with the titular song, but I do have some recollection of part II, and all the video iconography that surrounded its mass appeal - black and white abounded, so, yeah, this works.
