341ml bottle poured into tulip 11/5/16
A not quite black, enough clarity to see almost to the other side of the glass under a thin dark film, no real retention but it manages to leave some random lace around the top
S cocoa powder, cherry cola, some fennel, a little citrus and spruce trying to shine through but the hop level isn't really enough for the style
T more hops in the mouth but I'd still like to see more, lots of chocolate, faint roasted coffee, root beer and cherry cola work for it in a strange way
M lighter side of medium, stops short of cream but the bubbles thicken it up, oily in the mouth, somewhat bitter but tame for the style
O OK beer, not really what I'd expect from the style though, would score higher as a porter, drinkable and nothing to be ashamed of by any means but could use more green
Its a decent beer and I sound like I'm being hard on it but perhaps I'm just in the mood for a palate wrecking BIPA today

6.5% abv, 52 ibu, 342ml bottle.
A - little hazy brown with one finger off white head, lacing.
S - chai tea, fruity, spcie, brown sugar, raisin, herb, parsley, root beer.
T - mild carbonated, smooth. sweetness, followed by strong dark roasted barley base, finished with just right bit harsh bitterness. weird taste in a "not bad"way, which has some herbal, spice taste along with ipa characteristics. dry with mild hoppy.
O - couldn't say i like it, but did not hate it. unlike the CDA i had before, it got a really special chai, herbal, spice characters. not citrus, not piney. just as its own. the complexity is what i cant hate it for. but not the fav from the pack.

I rarely leave a review, but I really like this beer. It looks great, smells great and tastes great! The real reason I'm leaving a review is for a shoutout to "biboergosum" for his mention of the Motorhead version of Sympathy For the Devil. I never knew it existed and for as much as I'm enjoying this beer, I love their(Lemmy's-RIP) version of this song even more!

341ml bottle poured into tulip.
Pours a dark red-brown with one finger of tan head that leaves skeletal structures of lace as it recedes.
Smells of singed grapefruit and orange rind, roasted caramel malt, coffee grounds and pine resin.
Tastes of more roasted caramel malt and lightly burnt citrus, mild cold coffee and more resiny bitter hops.
Feels smooth and creamy. Medium bodied with mildly frothy carbonation. Finishes dry.
Verdict: Recommended. Not a bad example of a style I don't particularly care for.

Pleased to meet you. This is a very good beer, my favourite from this mixer pack to date. It pours dark, but I'm colour blind, so as far as I'm concerned it's black. The head is off-white and fleeting, the nose more roasted malt than anything else. Ironically, like having sympathy for Satan, this beer shines in the glass. The roasted malt is nicely balanced and flavorful. It leaves me wanting a bit of hop action, but overall this is an incredibly pleasant beer. So if you meet me, have some sympathy. Have some courtesy, and some taste. Buy me one of these and I would certainly be your friend.

341ml bottle, part of the Brews Brothers Vol. Two mixed pack, and a collaboration with Hearthstone Brewery, wherein they made a 'Black I.P.A.'. The Stones' Sympathy for the Devil is tapped as the accompanying song (though I do like Motorhead's cover of it from last year).
This beer pours a clear, dark orange-brick brown colour, with three fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat bubbly tan head, which leaves some chunky splattered lace around the glass as it quickly and evenly subsides.
It smells of roasted bready and doughy caramel malt, muddled citrus fruit flesh, some hard water flintiness, a twinge of dry coffee beans, and further leafy, weedy, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and bready caramel malt, some free-range wet char, still hard to differentiate domestic citrus notes, damp stone paths after the rains, and more plain grassy, leafy, and sort of floral hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly heady in its untethered frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth, which isn't something I am usually prone to utter about this style. It finishes off-dry, just, as the gently assaulted malt makes a final charge, right in the face of Lucifer himself, this time in the guise of black soot and denuded citrus fruit.
Overall, a rather enjoyable and easy to put pack hoppy black ale, the roasted character keeping it dialed back, and the hop bitterness returning the favour. More of a 'Black Pale Ale', then, but whatever, I've had enough of this 'hope you guess my name' (self-imposed) wankery - this particular devil deserves any sympathy you can muster for it.

Pours a dark brown with a reddish tinge and a finger thick beige head that has some lasting power. The nose leads with tons of citrus fruits, breads and caramel. Sweet caramel malts, green grasses, piney hop notes and a citrus rind bitterness round out the flavours. There is a perfect balance of carbonation and silky mouthfeel that makes this a great beverage.
