Bottom line is that this beer is a gruit. I give full credit to the brewers for developing this tasty recipe given the limitations. I believe that the low ratings for this beer are mostly based on people who do not truly understand the style, and that they are rating the beer based on unrealistic hop-centric expectations. To be honest, this beer exceeded my realistic expectations.

341ml bottle poured into tulip 12/5/16

A almost clear, maroon glow when held to the light, a finger of foam quickly falls to a thin film and stays a while but leaves no lace

S bruised apple with some strange spice, dried dark fruit, very earthy, maybe even some dried mushroom, honey and toffee, some hard to place fruit, strange but decent

T herbal, earthy, wet leaves, everything I smells still there, again its a strange brew but interesting

M medium bodied, soft from the bubbles, has a tannin like grit, odd earthy finish

O I'll give it credit for being different, I can't think of something similar and every sip there's something different

Its a hard one to figure out, I'm very curious to what the used to brew it, I don't think I'd go looking for it but its unique and worth a try

Umm. Never had this style of beer, never heard of the song. Reminds me of Monty Python - "And Now For Something Completely Different". As far as beer goes, this is sweetish, suckling meady shtuf. If this was the booze of the Druids, well, they can have it. I'm glad to have tried it, but I shan't be returning...

5.5% abv, N/A ibu, 341ml bottle.
A - dark amber, with half finger head, fade away fast tho.
S - fruity, cherry, chewing gum, floral, herbal, tart, raisin, date.
T - good carbonation, light body. really intering taste, like fruit tea. no hop while brewing, so no bitterness. cant really taste the malt as well. favors ran out fast, dry. left floral aftertaste. as it stated its brewed with ginger, but i cant get it.
O - whole new style of beer for me. aromas are great! refreshing fruity. favors mostly what aromas suggested, but ran out fast. tastes like carbonated fruit tea to me. i wouldn't say i like it, but it definitely worth to try, an opener to beer world!

341ml bottle poured into tulip.

Pours a deep, hazy amber red with a thin cap of beige head that leaves a ring of melting vanilla ice cream lace as it recedes.

Smells of cherry cola, sweet grainy malt, flowery herbs and spices.

Not as sweet as I thought it was going to be. Tastes of more soft grainy malt, sugary ginger and more herbs and spice.

Feels mild and fizzy. Medium-light bodied with plain carbonation. Finishes off-dry.

Verdict: It's alright, but I'm sure glad we as a species have figured out how to use hops.

341ml bottle, part of the Brews Brothers Vol. Two mixed pack, and a collaboration with Crannog Ales. The style is a Gruit, which I have not had in a very long time. Also, can't say that I've ever heard of the titular punk song, or band, either.

This beer pours a clear, dark red-brick amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and certainly bubbly tan head, which leaves a few instances of surfacing humpback whale profile lace around the glass as it gently sinks out of sight.

It smells of bready and grainy caramel malt, muddled black orchard stone fruit, a twinge of earthy honey, and prominent fresh floral esters. The taste is semi-sweet, grainy caramel malt, a touch of further honeyed toffee sweetness, ethereal ginger root spice, a weird floral mustiness, and more robust and berry-forward dark fruitiness.

The carbonation is fairly understated in its very shy frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and mostly smooth, generally attributable to that inbred fruity character, and the absence of you know who. It finishes sweet, but with a strange floral and musty offset.

There appears to be more than a few overlapping characteristics between alternagrain G-F brews, and this sort of thing, in the manner of that dead floral essence, and the side-stepping feeling that you get when you're drinking one. Not bad, but without the hop bitterness (or the purported ginger heat 'replacement' actually showing up), the drinkability here is approaching nil.
