P49/Axe & Barrel Brewing 'Paranoid' oaked wild imperial pilsner @ 8.5% , served from a 341 ml bottle purchased for $2.50
A-pour is gold from the bottle to a clear gold in the glass with a medium size white head leaving a streaky lace along the pilsner
S-hints of oak
T-oaked & wild tasting imperial pilsner
MF-decent carbonation , feels full bodied
Ov-ok beer , not a style I'm a fan of

341ml bottle poured into tulip 16/5/16
A crystal clear golden liquid but slow bubbles throughout, finger of cream colored dense foam leaves a collar and a few random patches
S some sour citrus, wet wood, mild funk, honey and soft caramel, lots of sweet grains, oddly fruity, a hint of booze, odd but good
T candied apricot might be what I was smelling? this ones all over the place with the funk and impy pil malt base with lots of hops, I like it but its not sure what its trying to be
M syrupy, just enough bubbles to give it some life, fairly bitter, not as sweet as I'd guess after smelling it, woody funk and fruit linger
O this ones a real oddball but it worked out really well, odd mix of fruity, funky, hoppy, and still has lots of malty influence
smells like a funky fruit beer on first whiff, I can't think of something similar to this stuff, odd but solid

8.5% abv, N/A ibu, 341ml bottle.
A - clear golden with thin head.
S - cherry, tart, fruit, buttery, little bit oaky, floral.
T - low carbonation, big smooth body. many many flavors! tartness, bitterness, coated sweetness, woody are come once...malt backbone. ran out dry, alcohol appearance at the back.
O - this is a surprise, since the other i had in the pack are all soso. i like the funky wild tartness, oaky but not overpowering. heavy mouthful that wouldnt expected of pilsner. could be a winner of the vol 2 pack.

This brew is all over the map, in my books. The pilsner base is obfuscated by the wild yeast that commits adultery all over the malt base of this beer. I'm at a loss to describe it, but I would definitely try it again. Did it with my woman cuz she couldnt' help me with my mind/People think I'm insane because I am drowning all the time/Someone help me!"

341ml bottle poured into tulip.
Pours a clear honey yellow with one finger of dirty white head that leaves rings of flabby foam as it recedes.
Smells of mild pale malt, funky yeast, oak and mild green hops.
Tastes of soft bready pale malt, a lot of white cheese funk and more phoned-in hops.
Feels mild and smooth. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Finishes dry and funky.
Verdict: Can't say I want another of these.

341ml bottle, part of the Brews Brothers Vol. Two mixed pack, and a collaboration with Axe & Barrel Brewing (a new suds-purveyor to me, as well as a new 'style' - an 'oaked wild imperial pilsner'). Black Sabbath is cuing up on the playlist right now, to accompany this apparently Paranoid offering.
This beer pours a clear, bright medium golden yellow colour, with one flabby finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some melting iced-up windshield lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.
It smells of edgy and grainy oak staves, a prominent free-range, earthy, and Brett-like cheesy funk, gritty and crackery pale Pils malt, a suggestion of phenolic paint thinner, and plain leafy, weedy, and floral hop bitters. The taste is semi-sweet, doughy pale malt, a strong earthy and funky yeasty thing, some more agreeable oaken woodiness than in the nose (vanilla, rather than sawdust), a hovering metallic booziness, and more very put-upon leafy, weedy, and grassy hoppiness.
The bubbles are fairly inert in their barely supportive frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and actually, somehow, quite smooth, with just a wee bit of funk and alcohol taking the sheen off, but not really interfering. It finishes trending sweet, the vanillan oak, unheralded base malt, and alighting big booze thankfully edging out any lingering funkiness.
Overall, this is an interesting conceit, as it's just the name that makes it seem overtly complicated. Calling it a barrel-aged Imperial Pilsner uses about the same amount of space, but comes off as less pretentious, or something. That said, it is indeed funky, oaky, and um, well, very warming. All right, I suppose, but not particularly to my taste, so - think I'll lose my mind if I don't find something to pacify.
