Clear copper, off-white head quickly dissipates.

Biscuit and caramel aroma with a bit of spice.

Gentle caramel sweetness, brown sugar, cinnamon and ginger, hint of orange rind. Alcohol is subtle. Some nice flav for a winter warmer.

Moderate body has an off-dry finish.

Apparently it's just caraway for the spice... very interesting... definitely works. It doesn't seem as big as it is, and I seem to be enjoying it more towards the end. It doesn't wear on me at all, like some big brews. Great balance.

341ml bottle, day 5 of the 2016 Seasons Greetings holiday mixer from Parallel 49 and Central City - the former likes the weird label characters, don't they?

This beer pours a clear, medium copper amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and fizzy beige head, which leaves a few splatters of blotchy lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of bready and grainy caramel malt, some indistinct sweet berries, brown sugar, and a faint earthy, leafy, and floral green hoppiness. The taste is sweet citrus and berry fruit, bready caramel/toffee malt, a touch of generic yeastiness, and more understated leafy, grassy, and slightly perfumed floral hops.

The carbonation is quite hard to detect, what with the bare-bones frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, but for a subtle sense of potential alcohol ingress. It finishes well off-dry, all mixed fruit and malt up the beerzerker.

Overall, this is a pleasant enough strong malty ale, with the aquavit, as expected, not really making all that much of an impression. Still, easy to drink, and nice and warming on the first truly and bitterly cold day of the season. A few more of these, and we could surely get cappernoited (thanks again, Forgotten English desk calendar!).
